Queer Dog Behaviours and Their Meanings

Dogs are indeed amazing animals. The most outstanding feature in dogs is their unique communication skills.

However at times, dogs speak bigger things than just wanting to eat or play and this calls for keen attention. There are three major signs dogs display when things are not okay. Though sometimes these symptoms might be caused by less serious things, it’s always good not to take them at face value.

One of these symptoms is scratching, which is a big pointer to the presence of fleas in their fur. Fleas get their way into the dog’s fur, multiply and then bite, causing constant scratching. If you have a cat as well and you see the same behaviour too, the message should be loud and clear since both cats and dogs are attacked by the same breed of fleas. Besides dealing with the fleas in your pets’ fur, you should also make haste to treat your entire house as well since the fleas will attack you next.

While efficiency at getting rid of the fleas in your house and off your pets is mandatory, convenience is also needed, something which is provided by Advecta. Although fleas are most likely to occur as long as you have pets, their unwarranted visits can be inhibited by regularly combing the fur of your dog or cat using a flea comb. This helps in removing traces of fleas and thus inhibiting their breeding. Fleas can also be kept at bay by regular vacuum cleaning of carpets and constant cleaning of the house.

Another red flag in a dog’s behaviour is diarrhoea or any other sickly sign. While cats throw up from time to time when nothing is wrong in particular, throwing up in dogs might be a cause for worry. Chocolate is one of those things that make dogs really sick and you should rush to your vet if you suspect they’ve eaten some.

At other times your dog might just be a bit under the weather and not in the mood for a walk. It’s always good to give them space and let them rest at such times, even as you keep a keen eye on them. You will also need to provide constant portions of small fluid amounts. If they show signs of deterioration, then a visit to your vet is imperative.

The other major unusual behaviour in dogs is coughing and tiredness. Though coughing and tiredness are caused by a variety of things, heartworms are the most probable underlying cause. Heartworm infestations can be prevented by regular treatments which kill them in their early stages. Nonetheless, these treatments are not effective against adult worms. Annual tests by your vet are important too.
Dogs need attention all the same, through their peak as well as off-peak moments. A prolonged life for a happy dog comes as a result of attentive care.
